Turkey’s Opposition Presidential Candidate Kulçdaroğlu Leads According to New Poll


The candidate for president of Turkey of the opposition National Alliance, Kemal Kulçdaroğlu, may have a big lead. This is according to the data of a new poll by the popular sociological agency “Aksoy”, quoted by the opposition Turkish newspapers “Jumhuriyet” and “Birgun”.

Presidential and parliamentary elections will be held in Turkey on May 14. The battle for the presidency is expected to be between current head of state Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the chairman of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the leader of the Kemalist People’s Republican Party (NRP) Kulçdaroğlu. Two more candidates applied for the presidential post – Muharem Indje and Sinan Ogan, BTA recalls.

26 days before the “historic election” described by many analysts, the results of the Aksoy agency survey indicate that if there is a second round of the presidential elections, Kemal Kulçdaroğlu will win with a lead of 14.8 percent. In the second round, 57.4 percent of voters would vote for Kemal Kulçdaroğlu, and 42.6 percent for Erdogan.

The survey was conducted among 1,067 citizens in 26 Turkish counties. According to the results of the survey in the first round of the presidential elections, 47.9 percent of voters will vote for Kulçdaroğlu, and 38.4 percent for Erdogan. Only 4.8 percent of Turkish citizens would vote for Sinan Ogan, and 9 percent for Muharrem Ince.

According to poll data, the results of the parliamentary elections of the ruling pro-Islamist Justice and Development Party (31.1 percent) and the opposition People’s Republican Party (30.6 percent) are expected to be very close. 11.4 percent of voters would vote for the “Good Party” of Meral Aksener – an ally of Kulçdaroglu, and 7.5 percent of Turkish voters would vote for the Nationalist Action Party of Devlet Bahceli – an ally of Erdogan. it says “Birgun”.

For the pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (DPN), 10.5 percent of the citizens of Turkey have indicated that they would vote, Cumhuriyet adds.
