Bulgaria is Preparing to Suspend the Import of Grain From Ukraine

Bulgaria plans to halt grain imports from Ukraine indefinitely as local farmers can’t keep up with competition.

According to RBC-Ukraine with reference to BTA , this was stated by acting. Minister of Agriculture of Bulgaria Yavor Gechev.

According to the official, after a meeting with grain producers, his ministry decided to send a request to the Bulgarian Ministry of Economy to suspend the import of a number of Ukrainian goods. The government of the country will consider such an initiative tomorrow, April 19.

“We believe that this will be a strong signal for Europe, because Europe cannot just listen to countries, it must take action,” Gechev said.

He also added that Ukraine “is creating unfair competition” that local farmers cannot stand.

The minister noted that after the pressure on Bulgarian farmers eases, the import ban may be revised or changed.

The official recalled that now three European countries have banned the import of Ukrainian grain. And therefore, all Ukrainian exports can be redirected through Romania and Bulgaria.

Recall, earlier it became known that in Romania the Social Democratic Party asks the government to impose a ban on grain imports from Ukraine .

We also wrote that today, April 18, Ukraine agreed with Poland on the resumption of grain transit .
