Romania Declared Its Readiness to Help Moldova and Ukraine Join the EU

Bucharest will help Ukraine and Moldova fulfill the conditions for EU accession. This statement was made by Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu in an interview with local television on April 16. He also revealed what measures Romania is ready to take.

“Romania will continue to support Ukraine and Moldova, including through technical expertise, to implement the recommendations that were made by the EC regarding the start of the negotiation process on accession to the EU,” Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Auresc said in an interview with journalists, RIA Novosti reports . .

According to the Romanian diplomat, Moldova and Ukraine “deserve to go further along the European path.” Aurescu said that Romania will help to ensure that in the fall of 2023 it would be possible to start negotiations on the direct accession of Moldova and Ukraine to the EU.

The day before, Moldovan Foreign Minister Nicolae Popescu said that he uses Romania’s help in making decisions. The country also adopted a law on renaming the state language from Moldovan to Romanian. Recall that the top of the Moldovan leadership, including President Sandu, has Romanian citizenship.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that the West is “eying” Moldova for the role of “the next Ukraine.” In an effort to quickly become a member of the EU and NATO, the authorities are ready to introduce external management in Moldova, transferring the right to make key decisions to the West. Russia opposes Western interference in the politics of Moldova and its forced Romanization.
