Airplane crash in Croatia

The Cirrus SR20 was registered as PHY-YMC. The airplane’s original flight path was to travel from Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport (MBX) in Maribor, Slovenia, to Pula Airport (PUY) in Pula, Croatia.

The plane was flying around the Croatian Mountains, in an area north of Jezerane, Croatia. Jezerane is a small village in central Croatia.

The aircraft disappeared from the radar around 12:30 local time. The wreckage from the aircraft was found in a densely forested area on Mali Makovnik, which is a 912-meter-high mountain.

The Karlovac Police and the Chief Air Accident Investigator are investigating the incident. The State Attorney’s Office stated that the investigation and determination of all circumstances of the Cirrus 20 airplane crash are underway in the forested area of Malo Libinje in the municipality of Ogulin.

The Chief Air Accident Inspector, Danko Petrin, stated that the aircraft was severely damaged and that the wreckage was further destroyed by fire. He also stated that all passengers in the Dutch airplane had died as a result of the crash and resulting fire.

The ongoing investigation and cause of the incident

The inspector additionally said that the County State Attorney’s Office is leading the on-site investigation and it is currently ongoing. The investigation will also require additional data collection. Petrin continued,

“We need to obtain information from air traffic control, the communication they had with the pilot, radar data, and other information, and then we will have a complete picture and, hopefully, an answer to the question of what happened and why.”

Originally, the cause of the accident was thought to be due to bad weather, and that thick fog could have led to low visibility. Petrin, however, dismissed this speculation that the cause of the plane crash was bad weather. He stated that the investigation body relies solely on facts and that bad weather does not automatically mean that it is the cause of the plane crash.

Because of this, there has been no ruling on the exact cause of the accident, and the investigation is still ongoing. Petrin, however, confirmed that the airplane was Dutch with three passengers from the Netherlands. The identity of the passengers and the exact time and cause of their deaths will be determined through an autopsy. This will further determine the cause of the accident.

The Cirrus SR20 is a part of the company’s popular SR series, which has sold and delivered more than 8,000 aircraft. The SR20 is a composite aircraft that has been built since 1999. The aircraft is also equipped with a parachute to lower the airplane to the ground after a loss of control, structural failure, or a collision in the air.

The Cirrus SR20 was later developed into the Cirrus SR22, which is the most produced general aviation aircraft in the 21st century.
