Greek Australian President From the World Council of Cretans Resigns


Greek Australian, John Nikolakakis, has resigned as President of the World Council of Cretans before the end of his three-year term.

Mr Nikolakakis was first elected as President in October 2021 and outlined his plans for his elected term, which was set to end in 2024.

Since his resignation, Mr Nikolakakis has been replaced by another Greek Australian and former Treasurer of the World Council of Cretans, Nick Markogiannakis.

The World Council of Cretans is a tertiary non-profit cultural association made up of Cretan member groups from across the United States, Europe and Australia. The Cretan Federation of Australia and New Zealand is a member.

Members will be meeting at the World Council of Cretans Convention this year on the Greek island of Crete from July 19 to 21.
