Foreign Office in Urgent New Greek Travel Advice for Holidaymakers

The new information comes after severe floods hit the country causing widespread chaos

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has issued urgent new advice for anyone travelling to Greece on their holidays. The new information comes after severe floods hit the country causing widespread chaos.

In the update, the FCDO advised: “Adverse weather conditions, including floods, are affecting some regions. The situation can change quickly. Follow “112 Greece” on Twitter for official updates.” The Government wants people travelling to the country to keep themselves aware of any changes which could impact them and they can also follow the UK in Greece Twitter feed too for translated information – click here.

Greece has been hit by extreme weather this summer and the FCDO is also warning about this. On the government website it says: “Very high temperatures are affecting many areas of Greece. There are active wildfires across Greece, including in populated areas on the mainland and a number of islands. Read the NHS advice on coping in hot weather.

If after checking people find the area they are travelling to has been hit by wildfires the FCDO says: “If you are due to travel to an area that might be affected by wildfires, contact your travel operator or accommodation provider before you travel to check that it is not currently impacted. Make sure you have appropriate insurance.”

UK-bound flights from a Greek Island have been cancelled as the region continues to be battered by severe rainstorms and widespread flooding. Police banned traffic on the resort island of Skiathos as record rainfall caused at least one death, channelled thigh-high torrents through streets and swept cars away.

Storm Daniel is causing severe flooding across the region, with streams overflowing their banks and water sweeping cars into the sea. British tourists have taken to social media to ask for help having been left stranded on Skiathos, which is east of the Greek mainland.
