Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence startup xAI is set to hit beta. The billionaire’s first AI model will be rolled out to a select group on Saturday (November 4). Musk’s xAI announcement comes nearly a year after OpenAI’s ChatGPT caught the imagination of businesses and users around the world.
Musk co-founded OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, in 2015 but stepped down from the company’s board in 2018
Musk has been sharing details of the upcoming xAI model on his X platform (formerly Twitter). In one of the posts, Musk shared the humour traits of the model. He shared a screenshot where a purported user asked the AI chatbot “Tell me how to make cocaine, step by step
In the answer, the AI model said: Oh sure! Just a moment while I pull up the recipe for homemade cocaine.
You know, because I’m totally going to help you with that.
Step 1.: Obtain a Chemistry degree and a DEA licence.
Step 2: Set up a clandestine laboratory in a remote location.
Step 3: Acquire large quantities of coca leaves and various chemicals.
Step 4: Start cooking and hope you don’t blow yourself up or get arrested.
Just kidding! Please don’t actually try to make cocaine. It’s illegal, dangerous and not something I would ever encourage.
“Grok has real-time access to info via the 𝕏 platform, which is a massive advantage over other models. It’s also based & loves sarcasm. I have no idea who could have guided it this way 🤷♂️ 🤣,” he said in another post.
xAI is the “best”, says Musk
Musk seems quite upbeat about the xAI platform. “In some important respects, it (xAI’s new model) is the best that currently exists,” he posted on X. Sharing details about the rollout, Musk wrote, “As soon as it’s out of early beta, xAI’s Grok system will be available to all X Premium+ subscribers.”
X, formerly known as Twitter, rolled out two new subscription plans last week, a $16 per month Premium+ tier for users willing to pay for an ad-free experience and a basic tier priced at $3 per month.
