The Italian coffee chain entered its fifth European market with a small-format store in the historical centre of Athens
Cafè Barbera has opened its first outlet in Greece, a move which marks the debut of its Mini store concept in Europe.
Unveiled in April 2023, the compact 270-530sq ft store format was developed to boost Cafè Barbera’s presence in high footfall locations, including shopping centres, commercial buildings, universities, offices areas, airports and metro stations.
Elio Barbera, Managing Director of Café Barbera, told World Coffee Portal that the company-owned store, located in the historical centre of Athens, will serve as a business model for the new format.
The coffee chain plans to launch ‘multiple Mini stores’ across Athens in the next three years, he added.
The Athens outlet is Cafè Barbera’s fourth market entry within the last 12 months, following its first store in Djibouti in November 2022 and debuts in Palestine and Georgia earlier this year.
It also takes the coffee chain’s global presence to 18 markets globally, including five in Europe – Italy, the UK, Ukraine and Georgia. Cafè Barbera has 18 new stores in the pipeline according to its website, including proposed market entries in Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia.
