Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has stressed the need for a political solution that presupposes the formation of a Palestinian state, during his keynote speech at the International Humanitarian Conference for Civilians in Gaza in Paris.

According to Ekathimerini, Mitsotakis’ position was similar to that of French President Emmanuel Macron, whom he met on the margins of the summit.

Mitsotakis said it is imperative “to start talking now about a possible political solution to this war, which will eventually be the only feasible way to achieve a permanent peace in the region.”

The two leaders talked on the importance of humanitarian pauses and restoring a continuous supply of humanitarian supplies to Gaza, as well as the plan to build a humanitarian corridor by water.

According to a plan presented at the conference by Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides, aid will be carried by sea to Gaza from the island nation, the closest European Union member-state, roughly 370 kilometres away.
