A US Secret Service agent who is part of the security detail of Naomi Biden, Joe Biden’s granddaughter, shot at three people. They were attempting to break into a government vehicle on November 12th in Georgetown, CNN reports.

Anthony Guglielmi, a Secret Service spokesman, said agents encountered individuals who had broken the window of a parked government vehicle. During the ensuing confrontation, the federal agent used his service weapon. At this time, it is believed that no one was injured by the gunfire.

The criminals quickly fled the scene in a red car. A regional request was made to support law enforcement units. The Secret Service emphasized that there was no discernible threat to any of their protectees.

A source familiar with the matter confirmed to CNN that the agent involved is part of the security team of Biden’s granddaughter.

The incident was first reported by the Associated Press, and Guglielmi said the investigation into the incident is a collaboration between the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department and the Secret Service.

Increase in Thefts and Violent Crimes

In a broader context, Washington, D.C. saw a noticeable increase in car thefts and general thefts throughout the year, various media sources have reported. The Secret Service’s response comes amid increased criminal activity with more than seven hundred and fifty auto thefts and more than six thousand vehicle thefts reported in the county this year alone.

Last month, Congressman Henry Cuellar of Texas experienced a carjacking near the Capitol. The 68-year-old Texas Democrat was parking his car when three armed assailants seized the opportunity, robbing him of his vehicle, phone, computer tablet, and even his dinner, The Guardian reported. However, Cuellar emerged physically unharmed from the encounter. The carjacking unfolded in Washington’s Navy Yard neighborhood, located approximately a mile from the US Capitol.

Violent crime has also reportedly risen sharply in the nation’s capital, reflecting an increase of more than forty percent over the previous year.

Shooting With Victims Near Athens

In September, Greek police reported the fatal shootings of six people in a coastal town near the Greek capital of Athens. According to Greek public television ERT, the incident is potentially linked to a conflict between organized criminal factions.

The victims, all men, were discovered both inside and in close proximity to a car, having sustained gunshot wounds. The investigation focused significantly on the targeted vehicle, which bore German license plates. Local media revealed the discovery of twenty-five shell casings at the scene.
