Spain, Turkey, France, Greece and Italy Could Turn Brits Away During Holidays Under New Scheme

People traveling from the UK to European countries like Spain, Greece, and Italy may not be allowed entry due to a new system that will be launched later this year after Brexit.

British tourists will now need to obtain a new document before they can visit any EU country. This travel permit will have a fee and has been introduced to make the borders of the Schengen zone more secure.

If you are from the UK and planning to visit the Schengen zone, which includes most European Union countries in mainland Europe, you will need to pay around seven euros for the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) visa waiver before you travel.

To get the ETIAS, you will also need to fill out an online application form. The requirements for ETIAS are expected to be enforced from November this year.

Once the ETIAS system is implemented, British passport holders could be refused entry at the borders if their ETIAS application is not approved. There are several reasons why an application could be denied, as we have previously mentioned.

Most applications will be approved almost immediately, but if there is an error in your ETIAS request, it might be rejected. According to Schengen Visa Info ETIAS applications may be turned down for the following reasons:

  • Your passport is invalid
  • You are considered a “risk”
  • You have a Schengen Information System (SIS) alert
  • You submit an incomplete application
  • You do not attend a required interview
